About Amy
Amy has been working within the disability sector since 2006, working with Government, Not-for profit and community based organisations.
Amy is a Proficient Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioner with a particular interest in complex and forensic disability. Her practice focuses on people whose support needs intersect with disability, complex mental health, justice, guardianship, restrictive practices and multiple service systems. Drawing on a multidisciplinary background spanning behavioural science, disability, policing, investigations, law, WHS, government and regulatory practice, Amy combines person-centred and trauma-informed Positive Behaviour Support with robust functional assessment, risk analysis and practical implementation. Her work seeks to understand the function and context of behaviour while balancing human rights, autonomy, safety, accountability and the development of meaningful alternative skills.
Amy's PBS practice extends beyond writing a Behaviour Support Plan.
Her work includes consulting with participants, families, guardians, disability providers and multidisciplinary practitioners; examining behavioural and incident data; undertaking functional and risk assessment; developing proactive and response strategies; supporting skill acquisition; and training the workers who implement behaviour support strategies.
Her professional records demonstrate staff implementation support and training, including individualised training arrangements for incoming workers. Positive Me also publicly offers organisational training covering restrictive practices, WHS, critical incidents, NDIS compliance and risk management. This is particularly significant for complex cases because the effectiveness of a Behaviour Support Plan depends not only on its clinical formulation, but on whether the surrounding team can understand, consistently implement and critically review it.
